Key Benefits of ESIC Registration for Employees
Medical Assistance
The ESI scheme provides comprehensive medical care and treatment to insured employees and their families whenever needed. This benefit is offered in kind through state government facilities and ESIC-run Model Hospitals (except in Delhi), without any link to the employee’s wages or contributions.
Maternity Benefit
Pregnant women insured under the scheme are entitled to maternity benefits for up to 26 weeks, which can be extended by 30 more days on medical advice. To claim this benefit, the employee must have contributed wages for at least 70 days in the preceding two contribution periods.
Disablement Benefit
If an employee becomes disabled due to an employment injury, they are eligible to receive up to 90% of their monthly wages as disablement benefit.
Sickness Benefit
Insured employees can claim 70% of their monthly wages during medically certified sickness. This benefit can be availed for a maximum of 91 days in a year.
Dependent Benefit
In case of the unfortunate death of an insured employee during employment due to work-related injury or disease, the dependants are entitled to receive 90% of the deceased’s monthly wages as a family pension.
Funeral Expenses
A lump sum amount of ₹10,000 is provided to the family of the deceased employee towards funeral expenses.
Confinement Expenses
This benefit is available if an insured woman or the wife of an insured male employee gives birth in an area where ESIC medical facilities are not available.
