INTRODUCTION

📄 What is e-Way Bill under GST?

An e-Way Bill is an electronic document generated online through a portal provided by the Central Government for tracking the movement of goods under the GST regime. Similar to a waybill under the earlier VAT and CST systems, the e-Way Bill ensures that all goods in transit are properly documented.

Under GST, this process is now digital and centralized, making compliance easier for businesses. The system covers both inter-state (goods moving from one state to another) and intra-state (within the same state) transportation. Implemented nationwide since April 2018, the e-Way Bill system has streamlined goods movement and made logistics more transparent and efficient.

Advantage

Advantages of e-Way Bill

Less Documentation

The online generation of e-Way Bills significantly reduces paperwork. A single document covers inter-state or intra-state movement, eliminating the need for multiple state-specific forms. Physical documents are replaced by secure electronic records.

Faster & Efficient Transportation

The e-Way Bill system saves both time and cost by minimizing delays at check-posts. Transporters no longer need to stop for repeated physical verification at every checkpoint, which reduces transit time and speeds up delivery.
